Add Choice column and allow manual entries does not work
I am trying to create a Choice field with the option for "Can add values manually" selected so in addition to the list provided the user can provide additional options. Can't figure out how to get it to work with a modern list. The dropdown shows up for me to select multiple items but there's no way to add a manual entry. I can type something in the field but it goes away when I save and it doesn't actually get added to the item in the list.
Is this functionality broken so I need to open a ticket or am I missing something?
- I just tested it on a modern list - added a choice that allowed manual entry using a dropdown. Selected 2 items and on the bulk edit page it allowed me to type in the manual values, and all where saved when I clicked save.
And once that happens, your manual choice will also show on the dropdown under the 'real' choices, to make it easier for people to pick the same manual choice.
I also tried it on a choice field that allowed multiple entries AND manual entry. It acted stranger - you could select however many choices you needed, but I couldn't do the manual choice at the same time. Select your choices, then close the dropdown, then type your manual entry. Then save. Kind of confusing. But it did keep all the checkboxes I checked as well as the manual entry. And the manual entry showed up as an option after that

Robin NilssonThank you for your quick reply. I was also able to get it to save from the bulk update pane. I could not, and still can't, get it to update when I select the item and click on the "Edit" button or when I am adding a "New" item.
Still seems broken to me if it doesn't work everywhere.
- Robin NilssonBronze ContributorI could get it to work on those forms, at least they worked on my ipad. But, it was different. Open a new form, and for the choice pick however many choices you need. Dont close the dropdown, just enter your manual entry on the line and hit return. The manual entry will show up below the original checkboxes and will be checked. Then you can finish off you item and save
But i agree, kind of awkward.
