What version of Project are you using? What template are you using and where did you get it?
Does the Project header say the template name with a "read only"?
What do you mean by "update the predecessor"? What exactly are you trying to update?

long story is, i am a sub-contractor. the m.project file i got from main contractor. i need to do scheduling based on main contractor progress work. so i add my task on main contractor m.project file. when i want to update the predecessor (based on main contractor progress), my task's date didn't update as the predecessor task i set.

Unfortunately your "long story" didn't answer any of my, or Dale's, questions. What version of Project are you using? Are the tasks manually scheduled and if so, why? How exactly are you updating progress?
And a couple more questions to be answered. Is calculation set to "on"? Do the tasks have constraints?
A screen shot would help.

Are you using Manually Scheduled tasks? If so, that would cause this behavior. Change the Task Mode to Auto Scheduled so that Microsoft Project can automatically reschedule your project when you change the schedule of a Predecessor task. Hope this helps.
