FILE TASK DATES CHANGE UPON OPENING FILE

Hello All.  Need a fix for Project file issue.  and Individual emailed out a Project file to several of us. However, when I open the file some of the dates change from 2023 to 2025 and 2026.

I asked one other person who received the file to open it, his dates are the corrrect dates (2023-24).  He forwarded me his file, but the dates change upon opening.

WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE TASK DATES TO CHANGE WHEN I OPEN THE FILE?

I tried closing and reopening Project.  Tried saving the file directly from email.

a resolution would be much appreciated.

    Hi willard800 ,

Did you ever find a solution for this?

I am facing the same issue and have tried all of the suggestions in this thread and have even re-installed MS project to no success. Both my colleague and I are running the same version of MS project (2021), even the same update/build.

    Best regards,

    Chris

      ongie15,

This thread is getting close to 2 years old with no feedback from willard800 after May 2023 (it really should be a new thread). Willard800 was unable to send me his file so there was not much I, or anybody else, could do to help. Would you be able to send me your file?

      John

        Hi John-project ,

I don't have a file right now that I can share immediately. The file in question has confidential information from our projects, so I won't be able to share it.

As far as I am aware though, project settings are saved within the project file itself - so as far as changing these to make them match, I didn't think that this would be the root-cause. Although, I have ensured that these match anyway. The fiscal year calendar has not changed, and both my colleague and I get different results when copying the file to one another via USB, as well as opening the exact same file in SharePoint.

I mentioned above as well that I even went as far as re-installing MS Project and ensuring that we are both running the same version and the same build and this hasn't helped, so it makes me wonder what is happening inside MS project that is causing things to be different.

The option regarding choosing to level resourcing or not also doesn't seem to make a difference. When I open some other files, then they appear okay, but it also could be because a majority of the tasks in that project are manually scheduled instead of automatically scheduled. So it leads me to believe that there's something in that.

    willard800,
Take a look at your option settings for Project. Do you perhaps have your option set to use a non-default fiscal year for all new projects (e.g. July instead of January)? Or, do you have your option set for all auto scheduled tasks to start on the current date for all new projects?

Thanks for your reply John. No to both. Default Fiscal Yr start January. 2) New projects - New tasks = Manually Scheduled

        willard800,
Are all the tasks in the project that was sent to you manually scheduled? What happens if you change them to auto-scheduled?

Try changing your options so that scheduling applies to the project in question instead of for "new projects".

        John
