Can I assign dates of availability to material resources?

I've been watching basically every video I can find on YouTube, but have not found an answer to this:

 

Say I have a task: "Dig Hole"

 

And for that task, I have a material resource: "Shovel"

 

However, that resource (shovel in this case) is not available before a certain date. Let's say the shovel will not become available for use until 1/1/2024. Therefore, the work cannot start before or until 1/1/2024, when that material resource becomes available.

 

Is there a way to assign this availability to this material resource, and so then when I have a task and allocate this resource to it, Project can automatically update the Begin Task dates to coincide with when the material becomes available?

    Your mistake is assuming that the Shovel resource is a Material resource. The Shovel resource needs to be a Work resource because the shovel actually does "work" in the project. And when you make the Shovel resource a Work resource, you can view and analyze resource availability for this resource, which you CANNOT do if you make the Shovel a Material resource. Hope this helps.
