why we can not create planner plans inside Microsoft Teams private and shared channels
I have a Microsoft Private Teams, which contains; 2 standard channels + 1 private channel + 1 shared channel.
now for the standard channels i can create planner plan for them, as follow:-
while for the private and shared channels this option is not available, as follow:-
so what is the reason behind this , that we can not create planner plan for private and shared channels, even if i go to the related SharePoint site for the private and for the shared channels this option is not there as well:-
any advice?

....anyways..MS will always be like this incomplete solutions and work arounds
- ThomasBurkBrass ContributorA work Around is to open the planner you have made.
Copy the URL
open up the PRIVATE teams channel
add WEB SITE
paste the planner URL
now the private channel has a Planner. - LeonPavesicSilver Contributor
Hi johnjohn-Peter,
Hi @johnjohn-Peter,
when you create a new plan in Planner, it automatically creates an Office 365 group. This group is a shared workspace for email, conversations, files, and events where group members can collectively get stuff done.
Now, when it comes to private channels in Teams, they are designed to be areas within a team where a subset of the team can have focused, private conversations and share files. However, these private channels are not tied to an Office 365 group. This is why you cannot add a Planner tab to a private channel in Teams.
The Planner tab relies on the Office 365 group created when a plan is made, and since a private channel doesn’t have an associated Office 365 group, it can’t support a Planner tab.

Planner used to be a standalone that didn't require a 365 Group. Our company allowed users to make groups and plans. We had so many groups that admin was a nightmare scrolling for days and non-standard naming from users.
We turned off users' ability to make groups to solve the issue and now they can't use planner for more than one person. MS no longer allows even to add 1 person.

Not sure this makes sense, because we are able to add other applications, like notes. So what is the difference between that and Planner?
The purpose of Teams Channel is to interact and create communities for sharing details. If locked channels are meant to be "only for discussions" we already have the chat for that, and there we can add any app we like.
So this private channel becomes useless and I'm wondering what the purpose should be having it there? Just allow us to link a chat that can be "private" and then people are able to add any application they seem fit.
The use case we have is to have a Teams Group with selected channels, a mix of private and open. This would be for instance to manage requests before they are made public or released. So having a private channel to discuss various items and to be able to have a Planner board to manage it would be very useful. There are of course ways to get around it, just seems a shame not to be able to utilize the private channels in this way.

I agree with everyone on this post. This is a hindrance and something that MS should update in the near future. Often, a private channel in TEAMS needs Planner to collaborate. Other aps can be added to the private channel, so why not Planner.
- StuartfBrass ContributorThis restrictive reliance on an Office 365 group seems like a hinderance, instead it forces you to have a proliferation of separate teams. This seems quite unscalable.
The original issue with planner was that task were not hierarchical this weakness continues from my current POV.
