Tasks associated with goals don't appear in My Tasks

I created a few simple plans for myself and my team that do not have goals--just tasks and due dates. When I assign a task within one of these plans, the person who has been assigned receives an email notification and the task appears in the My Tasks folder.

I also created annual plans for each of the six programs my team operates. These plans have goals. I have assigned tasks to myself and other team members under each goal. We can see the tasks assigned to us if we open each plan, but those tasks don't appear in My Tasks and no notifications are sent. This means everyone has to click into each of those six plans separately to see what their tasks are for that day, week, etc. rather than having all of their tasks in one place. Of course, people don't always do this so it is up to me to keep reminding everyone.

Why don't these tasks appear in My Tasks, and is there anything I can do about this?

  • I'm not sure what environment you're in, but I'm in a GCC tenant. I've been dealing with this for the past month. I came across a community question about this from last year (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5491897/tasks-from-premium-plans-do-not-show-up-under-my-t) and it seems at that time there wasn't the capability to do that within the GCC environment. I haven't been able to find anything for the past couple of hours that points to it being on the roadmap for Planner in GCC. There's workarounds recommended (Power Automate tasks, notifications, etc), but it doesn't look like it's a thing right now. Unfortunately.

  • Associating a task with a goal should not, by itself, exclude an assigned task from My Tasks. Microsoft’s current feature comparison says Premium-plan assignments appear in Assigned to me and Microsoft To Do when the assignee is also a member of the Microsoft 365 group associated with the plan. Check that condition first for every affected person; being named on a task is not sufficient if group membership is missing. Then verify that My Tasks has no source, status, or date filter hiding the work and that each assignment resolves to the correct organizational account. Create two temporary tasks in the same affected plan, assign both to one confirmed group member, and associate only one with a goal. Compare their appearance and notification behavior after synchronization. If only the goal-linked task disappears, preserve both task IDs, plan ID, license details, screenshots, and UTC test time and report it through Microsoft support as a reproducible Planner defect. Recreating six plans should not be the first remedy.

This may be the issue. I work in local government. Thanks.
