Resource Management with Planner

I as team leader must send members of my team to task forces. In order to see which team member I can choose for the task force I need to be able see quickly who has the least tasks in one or more projects. This means that I need to be able to make a plan where I see all the todos my team members are working on wihtin their respective plans. A master plan if you will that connects all plans of the respective members into one plan that is called resource management. Is that possible with MS Planner? Which Version do I need for that (Planner 1,3,5)?  How does that work? Thank you!

  • To satisfy the needs of PMs such as yourself, Microsoft did create what is called an accelerator. The native accelerator might meet some of your needs, but my organization (working closely with the Microsoft product team) reworked the accelerator. It includes an element of Resource Management and Power BI reports that help evaluate resource capacity and engagements considering the entire portfolio of projects - or you can filter your criteria. If you would like to learn more, I'd be happy to connect.

We have the same requirements as Aamir and would to hear about your solution, can you please share more information?

  • Plan 5, if it is possible at all. Resource management in Planner is non-existent due to founding everything in M365 groups. But maybe the resource management features from MS Project can somehow save the day. But you will need Plan 5.
