REQUEST - Be able to Paste images into Notes and Comments field!
This is must! Tools like Trello already have this and this actually is stepback for some people wanting to migrate. They see that they can't paste images, they go to Trello.

- ThomasFensterseiferCopper ContributorWhy this take so long to Microsoft make this?
it would help a lot in user interactions on planner.- GraniteStateColinIron Contributor
Just got an update from Microsoft on this yesterday: "We expect to begin rolling out the new rich text task notes field in mid-June (previously late March) and we expect to complete the rollout by late August 2023 (previously late July)."
It still won't include pasting images, but the data structure change described below is a necessary prerequisite to enabling images in the notes.
The report also says (much of this is the same as prior reports):
To support this capability, we are introducing a new rich text enabled task notes field in the Planner Microsoft Graph API. This will result in two task notes fields in our API โ the new โrich text task notes fieldโ and the existing โplain text task notes field.โ When this feature launches, Planner for the Web and for Teams (Tasks app) will support rich text in task notes. Other Planner experiences in iOS, Android, SharePoint, and Power Automate will only support plain text task notes, but we plan to update these apps to support rich text at a later date.
When this feature update is deployed, all existing task notes content will be preserved in the new rich text enabled task notes field, so users will be able to continue viewing and editing notes without interruption.
We will maintain compatibility between the rich text task notes field and plain text task notes field by ensuring both fieldsโ contents stay in sync.
If a user edits the rich text task notes field, all content is synced to the plain text task notes field automatically. Any rich content is converted to plain text and synced to the plain text task notes field.
If a user edits the plain text task notes field via the Microsoft Graph API or via a client which only supports the plain text field, the contents in the plain text task notes field is synced to the rich text task notes field without modification. Therefore edits to the plain text task notes field will result in the removal of any pre-existing rich text, or text formatting in the rich text notes field.

GraniteStateColin I have been using the Rich text in the task description in Planner for several weeks now, but still missing from comments. And, as expected, there is still no way to paste images from the clipboard. So, maybe this is 10% progress. Better than nothing, but far from where we need to be.

I totally agree the requirement and a must for using Planner and MS Project for Web for professional use cases and managing projects. It is in most caese not practicable to save a screenshot before using it i for description for a planner task. PLease let us know, when this feature will be planned in the next future! djheyvoon
- GraniteStateColinIron ContributorPlease be sure to hit the gear in the upper right of Planner, select "Send Planner feedback" and keep letting Microsoft know. Keep submitting every month or quarter, so they don't lose track of this or forget how many of us want this. It was among the most requested features back when there was a Customer Voice site for Planner.

Agree! Need this

friend of mine found a nice work around for planner, but powerapps ultimately could serve you better as it is dynamic through connections with sharepoing lists and patch commands.
Build screen/component for editing/adding data through a form in powerapps. Read/patch powerapp entries to sharepoint column (you can use same fields as in planner, or more). Then on powerapp screen include a paste only html text box. paste image. on submit html textbox data (containing only an image) converts image to base 64 and patches to sharepoint list for image column. powerapp then reads back in the image for future edit/viewing. good luck.- GraniteStateColinIron Contributor
joeadkins33, that's a clever approach. Unfortunately, for me, I need to be able to have images (screen shots) in comments to show developers "Here's an issue, see picture." An attached file is separate from the comments so it will be difficult to decipher which image goes with which comment. If a feature or bugfix has a lot of back-and-forth, this can make the whole task impossible to follow.
- GraniteStateColinIron ContributorAnd they have pushed the release date out yet again, until June this time. I have zero confidence in any Microsoft dates related to this (and started to affect my MS trust overall).

Good suggestion but rather if MS would come through with an Upgrade!!

Was waiting as the rest here for the good news, but unfortunately if anything comes at all will be without pasting images - very disappointing... Here quote: "Support for images in the notes field will not be included with this feature release..."

has anyone got contact with Microsoft re this, it would be nice to be able to plan use of this inconjuction with the data verse and a digital implementation, I'm trying to get people to use Microsoft 365 but struggle with its works but... situations.
not being able to paste a photo, seems like a simple feature. could we link the photo in the comments to a persons OneDrive storage at the least? if its a data overhead problem?
it ppears we have been asking for this feature for a couple of years now ๐ฎ ๐kind regards

djheyvoon we are still waiting to see this happen - my other client uses Trello purely because of the inline image/screen shot paste functionality - Cmon Microsoft!!!
- CarloBenedictiCopper ContributorAgreed, March is going to end - any update BigMicrosoft?
- CarloBenedictiCopper ContributorNo actual date updated.... It seems to be we should not wait any longer and move to other competitor products.....
- CarloBenedictiCopper ContributorTarget now Sept22. Definitely not a priority for Microsoft. I will solve my problems with competitor tools....
- GraniteStateColinIron ContributorCarlo, at least now they've changed it to show General Availability in March. Last month it said GA in February, so at least they've touched it. Maybe it really is getting close...

GraniteStateColin Always good to see there are still optimists. It is now April 4, and status is still in dev/test. GA is not changed though. So we ought to be able to see untested features in Teams. ๐ Such an important feature... so low a priority.
Number of items (total since 2020) in Roadmap: 14. This for ToDo and Planner.
So better stick to Jira and Trello. More dev-power there.
- Toni_Euroholds2009Copper ContributorCOMPLETELY AGREE!! It's really annoying to deal with this EVERY day. We are seriously studying move OUR PLANNERS to TRELLO!
- CarloBenedictiCopper ContributorTotally agree! advance formatting is a must.
- SanthoshB1Bronze ContributorThis feature is scheduled for Feb 2022 as per M365 roadmap.
- GraniteStateColinIron Contributor
I notice by the key, it's still at "In Development" but in the text, it says that it's at "General Availability." Am I just misreading that (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=85688), or does that page contradict itself?
If it's in General Availability, than MS completely failed to address the problem here. We still can't paste screen capture images into Planner task descriptions or comments.
- Toni_Euroholds2009Copper ContributorC'mon MS!!! All the users will strongly applause you for this, so C'mon!
- GregLBrass ContributorLooks like this is finally on the Planner roadmap with GA scheduled for Dec 2021. Microsoft Planner: Rich text and images in Planner task notes (Roadmap ID 85688).
- GraniteStateColinIron Contributor
This is GREAT NEWS!! Here's a URL for others who end up on this page like I did when searching for information on this to check on the status: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=85688.
Now let's just hope that MS can keep to this schedule. For us, like for other posts here, this is the critical deficiency with Planner. We can't use it for software development if we can't quickly and easily paste screen shots into comments or initial task items. The way this works in Jira, Trello, or even Microsoft's own Teams Chat/Posts is perfect. Need to be able to paste images, not save them to a file, then navigate to the file to attach them. That turns a 1 second process into about a minute, which is long enough to destroy productivity and keep the team from being willing to use Planner, which in turn undermines interest in Teams too (even though Teams supports this capability in its own Chat windows, if we have to use Jira or Trello for project work, then Teams is much less attractive as a platform). So glad it looks like this is finally coming to Planner too.
- brunotdantasCopper ContributorWOW! Finally ๐
