Using New Outlook with an iCloud Account

I have started using the New Outlook. The first account I added was my iCloud account. The Calendar mapped fine from iCloud, but the Contacts have wrong characters and errors. These do not appear in iCloud.com or in my Outlook 2019, which uses iCloud for Windows.

How can I fix this?

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with character encoding in the New Outlook. Since the contacts appear fine in iCloud.com and Outlook 2019, it might be a compatibility or sync issue with the New Outlook. You could try checking for any available updates for Outlook or iCloud, or try removing and re-adding your iCloud account to see if that resolves the issue. If the problem persists, it might be helpful to report it to Microsoft support for further troubleshooting. For more details visit.

Do you mean they are not contacts that you ever created, or do you mean they are your contacts but were messed up in the sync?

What are the 'wrong characters' and errors?

Thank you very much for your reply. I mean they are my contacts but were messed up in the sync. The wrong contacts and characters are e.g. long strings of random characters in the Notes section of some contacts, phone numbers that don't belong in some contacts, etc.

      • That usually indicates a problem with the sync. Remove the account - then confirm in icloud.com that the contacts are not messed up there before adding it back to outlook.

If they are messed up online, iCloud keeps 10 backups - restore an older one before adding the account back to outlook.

  • Did you notice anything odd while setting it up with your security by chance? I would try removing the account from New Outlook and adding back in again.

  • I haven't come across this issue yet but I'd try removing the account and adding back. Sometimes doing updates on your computer first are helpful with odd glitches in Outlook/New Outlook.
