I have the same issue.  This is a cash grab and I'm pretty sure we can look into a class action.  I, personally, maintain a business basic and a personal account.  I don't actually use the business basic account for business, I just liked the ability to utilize certain features of 365 that weren't available via other methods.

So they want me to.... buy outlook twice?  Something doesn't seem right about that.

I am also having this problem.  I had zero issues with Windows Mail (which they have chosen to discontinue).  Microsoft needs to make this right.  I can no longer use my laptop for work or union emails.  Personally, I feel Windows Mail needs to be restored.  It was a far better product than Outlook.  The presentation was better, it ran "lighter", and it made my laptop fully functional for work/union business.  Now I have to log in through the web to view work email (getting no notifications of an arriving message until I log in) and my union email won't work at all.  We shouldn't have to pay for a 365 account to be restored to where we were prior to them making this change.

I have no problem accessing work or union email through my company Apple iPad using their stock email application, so Microsoft has just given people another reason to go to Apple.

In my situation... I have a Microsoft Family license and was trying to add my work email account to my home computer w/ Outlook app (not web version). I figured out that the primary email on the Microsoft account has to be an @outlook.com account. I was using an @gmail.com address to control my Microsoft account (that I used to buy the Microsoft Family subscription) and getting this error. As soon as I created a new @outlook.com account (which you can do during the Microsoft account sign-in process) and used that (only) for the Microsoft account login/management ...I was able to add both my work and Gmail accounts to Outlook app. I also have the new 'alias' @outlook.com account (that I created to control my Microsoft account) also on Outlook as the first/default account ...but I just ignore/hide it.

Just wanted to chime in -- this was exactly the solution for me.  Because my Office 365 Family was under my personal email, I had to create FIRST an account for Outlook under my personal credentials.  Then I was able to add the second account which was the work account I really wanted.  Thank you for figuring that out because I was starting to lose my mind trying to login with my work credentials and getting that error message!!

    Hello All,

I am facing also the same issue.

I have assigned my email with Microsoft 365 business basic license. and its configured with old outlook 365/2021 working fine, but while configuring with New Outlook, its showing the same error.
