Receiving "Contacting the server for more information" with the latest Outlook 2005 update

I have a few Win 10 users that have just received the latest June update (12827.20268).  They are reporting sporadic occurrences of the dialog "Contacting the server for more information" in Outlook (no reports of other Office apps at this time.)  This dialog will stay in place for 10 seconds to multiple minutes before closing.

In these cases, this is new behavior (last few days) and I'm assuming tied to the Office update.  Is this an Outlook dialog, or could this be a OneDrive issue?  I've had them close OneDrive for now and report back if it occurs again.  Anyone else seeing this with the 2005 update?

  • liquidate I don't have a solution, but maybe an explanation.  I get that message frequently.  It is always in response to a specific email sender, a restaurant chain I chose to get notifications from.  Anytime I open a message they send, I get that error message from Outlook as its waiting for the restaurant chain's servers to supply the pictures sent as embedded web links.  In other words, Outlook is showing this particular message to tell me that it can't show me the embedded pictures until the sender's web servers supply them.  Any chance that might be what you're seeing?

I suspect so.  Maybe a problem with O365 servers?  I opened a ticket with MSFT and they claimed that this was a known issue and took the emails from some of the effected users.  In one of the known reproducible emails, heavy with embedded images, most of the communication is between internal employees at the company, which leads me to think this is O365 servers having issues serving all of these small screen shot images that they have embedded.
