Outlook unable to reply/forward encrypt-only email.

Hi,

I was unable to reply or forward to email I received with encrypt-only permission. Received error message "Microsoft Outlook was not able to create message with restricted permission". This only happen this week. I was able to reply/forward this kind of email last week. This only happen using 1 device of windows Microsoft Outlook application. I've tried using mac, web outlook, new outlook & other device and it was working fine.
Here some troubleshoot I have done.
- Update Microsoft Application.

- Windows Update.
- Clear all Outlook profile cache and create new profile.

- Microsoft 365 quick repair & online repair.

Appreciated if anyone could help me.

Thank you.

  • You can try the below registry entry as a workaround for now:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\DRM

    Name: PreferredRmsPackage

    Type: DWORD

    Value: 1

After I applied this key I could reply to emails on both Windows 10 and 1. My issue now is that users on Server 2022 VDI cannot reply to emails. Even after adding this key it still does not work on 2022.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your issue.
I'm seeing the same issue, it seems to resolve itself after a few hours. However that isn't acceptable to some users.

Were you able to find a solution?
