That's because they plan to replace the desktop Outlook entirely with the web version running as an embedded Chromium app (like Teams or Slack). Give feedback on that as well because it's a terrible RAM-slaughtering idea that will remove 75% of the functionality of Outlook.

Why would they do this and allow a lot of other things to be customized? Being on the left is a waste of space as it only shows 4 icons while everything below that is empty in the nav bar.
