Outlook for Windows

Hi - I would appreciate some help if possible.

I have been using Microsoft Outlook for many years but have now had to start using Outlook for Windows for my Outlook e-mail account as MS Outlook no longer supports it.

Microsoft Outlook gave the option to add and delete fields such as 'From', 'Subject' 'Received' etc by right clicking and choosing 'Customize Current View'.  I found this very useful as I added an 'Action' column where I could add reminders and comments for particular e-mails.

Is there a way I can do similar in Outlook for Windows as all it displays is 'From', 'Subject' and 'Received'.

When I right click in the row it just gives 'Sort Ascending', Sort Descending' or 'Change the View', which then gives just three options of 'Roomy', 'Cosy' or 'Compact'.

Grateful if anyone has some advice.

Regards

Malcolm

  • If there is a feature missing from the New Outlook that you really need, and you do not want to subscribe to a paid Microsoft 365 plan to get Classic Outlook, then you might want to consider buying a license for Office Home & Business 2024.

This includes Outlook 2024. The latest version of the full featured, Classic, desktop, stand alone, perpetual license Outlook.

  • New Outlook for Windows does not support customizing Views.

What version of Classic Outlook were you using?

What email account(s) are you using?  Reply only with the email account domain (the part after the @). e.g. "outlook.com", "gmail.com". NOT your entire email address.

  • 1. Basic Fixes
     Restart Outlook
Exit completely (Task Manager ends Outlook.exe) and reopen it
     Repair Office
Control Panel > Programs and Features > select Microsoft 365
Click “Change” > “Quick Fix” > “Repair”
    Restart your computer when done
    2. Mail synchronization issues
    Update Inbox manually
    Press F9 to force synchronization
     Rebuild Outlook data file
    Close Outlook
Delete/rename the following files (rebuild automatically):
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook\*.ost
    Re-login to your account
    3. Stuck/crashed interface
    Safe Mode Startup
Press Win + R and type:
    outlook.exe /safe
Test if it works (if it works then it may be a plugin conflict)
    Disable hardware acceleration
    File > Options > Advanced
    Check “Disable hardware graphics acceleration”
    Restart Outlook
    4. Calendar/Meeting Issues
    Reset Calendar View
    Switch to the Calendar module
Right click Calendar > “View Settings” > “Reset View”
    Check time zone settings
    File > Options > Calendar
Ensure that the time zone is consistent with the system
    5. Ultimate Solution
    Create a new Outlook profile
Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles
Click “Add” to create a new configuration
Set as default and restart Outlook
     Completely reinstall Office
    Use the official uninstall tool
    Reinstall from office.com
