Hi TomW123 Outlook 2013 is out of support (since April 2023) and no longer works reliably with modern Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online services.
Some Workarounds
- Check Updates
- Make sure Outlook 2013 is 15.0.5579.1000 (or later). If not, it won’t support even basic TLS 1.2 connections.
- Modern Auth Limitation
- Outlook 2013 does not support Modern Authentication by default.
- Even with registry tweaks, Microsoft has already disabled Basic Auth in Exchange Online, so 2013 cannot sign in to M365 mailboxes anymore.
- Uninstall Conflicting Click-to-Run Components
- Run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) → “Uninstall Office” tool to remove hidden Click-to-Run remnants.
- Reboot and reinstall standalone Outlook 2013 if needed.
- If Mailbox is On-Prem Exchange
- Outlook 2013 can still connect if the on-prem Exchange allows legacy authentication and Autodiscover works.
- In this case, verify Autodiscover DNS records and test with Test E-mail AutoConfiguration (Ctrl + Right-click Outlook icon).
- Best Long-Term Fix
- If this is for Exchange Online / Microsoft 365 → You’ll need Outlook 2016 or later (preferably Office 2021 LTSC or Microsoft 365 Apps).
- Outlook 2013 simply cannot connect anymore once Modern Auth is enforced.
- Outlook 2013 cannot add Microsoft 365 mailboxes anymore → upgrade is required.
- If using on-prem Exchange, check Autodiscover and clear Office remnants with SaRA.
- For Microsoft 365 users → move to Outlook 2016/2019/2021 or M365 Apps.
