Outlook 2007 search on Windows 11 fails by returning no results
- Sep 25, 2021
Hi, I finally fixed the problem on Windows 11 by simply going to:
Control Panel->Indexing Options->Modify->Unchecked "Microsoft Office Outlook"
Save everything and restart the Outlook.
Now I can search my mail box.
I thought keeping outlook checked is the right thing to do.
But Microsoft interface and docs, sometimes are not intuitive.
Hope this helps.
I've got the exact same problem, and for me its a deal breaker for using windows 11. I've tried every fix I can find on the net, and nothing works. I'm off back to Windows 10 beker

bekerHello there,
I unchecked OUTLOOK 2007 search in Advanced Indexing Options, but it reappears as checked when I close and reopen Advanced Indexing Options. Then it occurred to me that I can uncheck the .PST fines included in OUTLOOK, and that worked!!! Thank you for your advice.

beker Thanks! Huge help! This worked perfectly!
Now the question is how to upgrade to office 365 online and move all of my email, calendar data and contacts to the cloud. Is this possible without an exchange server and if so how?
Thanks Agian!

Im also sure that on the sign in screen there was an option to use outlook for windows 11 users for free.
I would preferer to keep all of my files local rather than on a cloud server.

beker Thanks so much for this simple solution! Was going a little nuts trying to solve this for a customer with a new Surface Laptop that comes pre-installed with Win11. You rock.
- HelpIfICanNov 25, 2022Copper ContributorI too spent hours on this one having just purchased a new PC with Win-11.
Win-10 was fine. but at least we now know this works.
- HelpIfICanOct 02, 2022Copper ContributorI could not get this to work, after removing both outlook and outlook 2007 outlook 2007 kept reassigning itself.
My solution was: (While in Outlook 2007)
From: Tools/instant search/search options/indexing
Then uncheck “Index messages in these files":
Im my case it was Personal Folders.
Also click on “when searching” show results from all folders
Hope this helps someone too.- JerryFrenchDec 11, 2024Copper Contributor

HelpIfICan,
Thanks! Your approach (posted Oct 02, 2022) was all I needed to do - deselect the Personal Folders from indexing within the Outlook *app* search options & restart Outlook.
I didn't need to remove "Microsoft Office Outlook" from the Control Panel Indexing Options. Not sure if the Control Panel indexing is still used for Outlook app searches, but the search results are FAST!- HelpIfICanAug 24, 2023Copper ContributorHappy for you.... what a pain that was... was win 11 really worth it.
