"NEW" plagued Outlook won't open .msg files

Microsoft Outlook Version: 1.2025.522.100 (Production)
Client Version: 20250523006.12
WebView2 Version: 136.0.3240.92 (Stable)

Worked last week. It's updated twice since then, but I didn't watch version numbers. Double-click or Open with... a msg file and get this:

I could have sworn I just saw an interview with the Outlook Product Manager stating "NEW" Outlook wasn't a web wrapper, but whatever. Anyone have a workaround of fix? I'd ask Copilot, but...

Right click on the .msg file → Open as → select Outlook and check Always use this application, then Win + R → type outlook.exe /resetnavpane
If that doesn't work, check Office Update Files > Accounts > Update Options, or you can open attachments through the web version of Outlook.

Thank you for the reply! Unfortunately, this isn't an attachment, it's a .msg file (when you save as or export a message, it's either .msg or .eml) file. However, you gave me an idea. I changed the extension from .msg to .eml and was able to open the email in New Outlook. The formatting was off, it showed the HTML, but if I scrolled far enough, I got to the actual content of the message. Thanks!
