navigation bar moved to left
Dears,
The navigation bar has been moved to the left. How can I change it back to be on the bottom?

Thank you, others, for your attempted help. Regardless of my tries, including multiple restarts, it won't move anywhere and stays on the left.
My concern with the problem? I am a quadriplegic paralyzed from the neck down. I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I could navigate Outlook by voice when it was at the bottom. It will not navigate by voice when it's on the left.
Thank you, Microsoft, for making a quadriplegic's life even more difficult. Please visit with your disability team before implementing merely cosmetic updates to see what misery you are causing people who are not blessed to be able-bodied like your software developers. Are you using the well-known keyboard shortcuts for the navigation pane when the buttons are on the bottom? The vertical buttons use Ctrl+n too - but instead of being the well-known shortcuts, they are based on the location on the bar. The last icon on the bar (not in my screenshot) has the overflow - right-click on them to pin, also to move up and down once pinned. It won't be easy for you to customize the bar, that is for sure.
These are the Ctrl+ shortcuts for my bar -

Another verify valid reason to make this change optional - user should be able to opt in or retain as is.
- I'm not hopeful. but I forwarded JJC's comments to my contacts on the product team.

MBZ1_ Because Gmail is also previewing putting the navigation bar on the left, it seems this is an inevitable interface change that we will likely need to accept.
Was there a TED talk or interface design research suggesting that this interface design is effective? Maybe interface designers from the various companies were taking a break at the local coffee shop and were brainstorming how they could justify their jobs, and this is the result.?

I was able to fix mine by simply moving the slider next to Try it now in the upper right corner to off and restarting Outlook.
- John_RoldanCopper ContributorSo many keep repeating the same so-called fix regarding the "Coming Soon" icon.
But, that only works with a "test" version that has the "Coming Soon" icon, not the Beta version.
"Coming Soon" means EXACTLY that!
So, to reply to the ORIGINAL POSTER, it appears that the new, undesired, location is what Microsoft intends to use based on the Beta version.- >>

Correct. Within a few weeks, no one will have coming soon and the vertical bar will be the only place for the navigation buttons.

I was able to move it back to the bottom. I turned off the "Coming Soon" Try it now in the top right. I then closed my Outlook and reopened it and my navigation bar was back at the bottom.

I am actually angry about this. It looks horrible and unnecessarily wastes space. Well done MS, didn't you learn from the Win 8 debacle that people don't like forced change? Just so stupid and annoying. Unless they introduce the ability to put it back at the bottom i will not be renewing my Office subscription.
Just to be clear MS, I hate it.

I tried what you suggested and it removed the TOC pane

@Microsoft: In the future, whenever designing features, start from this viewpoint: My computer is my slave.
I don't like it when my slave sneaks around at night rearranging all the furniture in my room.
- Estelle59Copper ContributorThere is a toggle switch in the upper right hand corner alongside the words "Try it Now". Mine was set to the ON position. I turned it to the OFF position, shut down Outlook, restarted it and the navigation pane was once again on the bottom. I should add there were additional icons in addition to mail, calendar, contacts and tasks when the navigation pane was on the left. Once it relocated to the bottom the additional icons were gone; however, you have the option of adding them by clicking on the ellipses.

I like so many have experienced this unwanted issue and the solution has likely been mentioned multiple times, however, I feel compelled to reiterate the broader concern here. For those who have not found a short-term fix: I simply turned off the "Coming Soon" Try it now feature in the top right corner and restarted my Outlook and all was well again. The broader concern is that the user's eyes have less work to go to the bottom left of the screen for those frequent use navigation buttons and they are relatively out of the way. When the buttons are high and to the left, they are not as accessible to the user experience. For those who want the choice, I do believe it should be given. I understand the logic of placing them to the left of the folders as the belief could be your eyes are there anyway, however they are less often in that space than when moving from email to calendar to other apps. I hope this isn't a planned permanent feature. MBZ1_

If I'm not mistaken - this new annoying new feature became a part of the "office 365" Insiders BETA Channel.
My "Office 365" does not show the "Try it Now" On/Off, toggle switch, - anymore.

Very well said - thanks for the commonsense reply - I hope the MS designers take into account what has been discussed in this thread.
