Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
Originally, I was unsure if you could run both Mail App & New Outlook for Windows simultaneously. So I tested it. Here are the results.
I was able to open both versions at the same time.
Note: You can only use either Classic Outlook or New Outlook, but not both simultaneously.
I hope this helps.

I have been able to open both the current version and the new version of Outlook at the same time. When I viewed the new Outlook I saved the link to the task bar. Then I switched back to the original Outlook. With the link for both versions of Outlook on the taskbar I can open both versions at the same time. I did it to see what some of the smaller changes entailed.

aasherTeresa_Cyrus,
I was able to archive all of my Tasks data by exporting them to a .CSV file. At some point it may truncate the notes field, but I have a task with 1,093 characters and it exported all of the field.- Teresa_CyrusJul 26, 2023MVP

Hi Teresa_Cyrus ,
Thanks very much for your quick reply, especially clarifying that New and Classic Outlook won't play nicely together.
I'm very dependent on lots of esoteric features of Classic Outlook, including Tasks functionality. (Yes, Outlook and I go way back to the late 1990s ;-0).
Will New Outlook for Windows be replacing Classic Outlook? If so, do you know if the Tasks functionality will be added to New Outlook for Windows by the 12/31/2024 deadline, or am I looking at a conversion between now and then to whatever new functionality New Outlook supports for Tasks.
Thanks again,
Steve- Teresa_CyrusJul 25, 2023MVP
I suspect the Task Manager will go away for the Mail and Calendar app at the end of 2024. My answer is based on the fact that I see the To-Do App is part of the New Outlook and Task Manager is not.
Although you may lose a lot of 90's functionality, there are some good things about the To-Do App. Once you get used to it. I have been using the web version for 2 years now. (By the way, I've also been using the classic version from day one too. We are telling our ages. 😂 )
I also noticed that the first time you launched the To-Do App, Microsoft informed you that the system would bring over the last 30 days of flagged emails by design. I am currently investigating how to bring over the remaining active and relevant flagged emails. (Stay tuned. Follow me on YouTube.)
The video that I posted today is timely. I provided tips on ways to clean up "abandon tasks" in the Windows version but it sounds like you are already a Task Manager Pro.
