how to update the sender name in the new Outlook?
I don't see it under the account settings. I was able to do this in the old Mail app.
Thanks
Bjh4850 The sender name for IMAP accounts is not editable.
For outlook.com and Microsoft 365 Work or School accounts, it picks the name up from the server.

To update the sender name in the new Outlook, open Outlook and go to Settings, then select Accounts or Manage Accounts. Choose your email account and look for the option “Your Name” or “Account settings.” Here you can edit the sender name as you want and save the changes. After updating, restart Outlook and your new sender name will start appearing in outgoing emails.

My New Outlook for Windows does not have those settings. Please post a screen shot of your New Outlook for Windows that shows the settings you refer to.
(You can change the Account Description, but that has no effect on the email Display Name).

Does anyone know if there has been any recent progress on this issue?

If you mean - Change the sender's Display Name in New Outlook for Windows for an IMAP email account, then No.

Hello,
I’d like to support this request, as I’m experiencing the same issue/desire. In the previous version of Outlook, I was able to edit the sender name of my email account, so that my name (First name, Last name) would be displayed instead of just the email address.
In the new version of Outlook, only the email address is shown as the sender, and I can no longer change the display name.
It would be very helpful if this functionality could be brought back, so we can choose how our name appears when sending emails.
Thank you for considering this! I apologize for the delayed response. You have received a couple of options from other users. Did you get your question answered?

I hope this feature (setting sender name on IMAP accounts) is added soon. I am using my iCloud account on the New Outlook, and otherwise it works very well.

Teresa_Cyrus yes, thanks
I believe Diane_Poremsky_MVP answered it for me.
Hi Bjh4850
I am an independent advisor answering questions about New Outlook.
If you want to modify the sender name, you must make changes in the People (Contacts) section. You can add or edit the contact and change the first and last name or add another name according to your preference.
If you find this information helpful, please mark it as the best answer or like it which will assist others with the same question.

- hamu7787Copper ContributorI just got the new outlook and seems I can't change the sender's name, it appears as my email.
I tried the recommendation by adding myself as a contact but still it appears as email address. - Bjh4850Copper Contributor
Teresa_Cyrus What I mean is, if my email address is mailto:email address removed for privacy reasons, when I send an email to someone, they see mailto:email address removed for privacy reasons as the sender. I want them to see 'John M Doe'.
I the old Windows 10 Mail program, you could go into the account set up and modify the sender name to change what the recipient would see.
Thanks
