Forgotten email password request being seen coming from a different email account

Use the work or school password reset flow, not the personal Microsoft account portal: open a private browser window, start at My Sign-Ins, select “Can’t access your account?”, and enter the full domain email address. The Hotmail wording appears because the personal Microsoft account is being selected, possibly because both identities use the same sign-in address; if prompted, choose “Work or school account.”
If self-service reset is unavailable, the organization’s Microsoft 365 administrator must reset the Exchange account. To prevent future confusion, rename the personal Microsoft account by adding another personal alias and making it primary.
