Archiving old emails

In the past, I would use File / Tools / Clean up Old Items.  In the Archive dialog box, I would highlight my email address, enter a date in the "Archive items older than:" window.  For example, I want to archive all items older than Jan 1, 2012, I would enter 1/1/2012 in that window.  I would then enter an Archive file name (new or existing) then click OK.  When returning to the Home page, I would see the progress moving through the folders.  This process worked as I wanted.  However, using the same process now, nothing gets archived.  What am I doing wrong?
