Shortcuts to Folders Synced Between Two Computer Desktops

I have OneDrive installed on a work desktop and a laptop I use at home and when traveling.  I sync the desktop between both machines.  I want to have a shortcuts on my desktops that open OneDrive folders.  This previously worked fine for me. But I recently had to reinstall OneDrive and I am unable to configure it properly now.  The shortcut works on one machine or the other, but not both.  If I create the shortcut on the desktop it works correctly there, but not on the laptop. If I create it on the laptop, it won't work on the desktop.

The failing "folder" looks like this:

Because the file path is slightly different (because of unique usernames) I tried using a variable instead:

"C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive - Company Name\Work Files"

But that still didn't solve the problem.

Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

  • One other item I should have included...if I right click and choose "open file location", it takes me to the correct location:

It just doesn't function like a normal folder icon.  I can't directly open it, nor can I drop files into it.
