I understand what you are saying about it being duplicative, but it shows you aren't understanding the use cases we have. All of my working files whether code or docs or whatever - are supposed to be in the company's OneDrive/MS365 folders. We are discouraged to have ANYTHING outside of that - and for good reason. So yes, that includes all of my code. This is a common use case, especially with small companies like ours.
In order to fix the sharepoint sync issue I had to stop syncing in the OneDrive App, delete the (empty) folder and then go online to sharepoint and start syncing again. And now I have to go a do the same for every one of my colleagues.
Again, this is a business critical app. This should not have happened. It took me a good two hours to just find reference to this change (after rebooting my machine, which is when everything changed). I thought I had malware at first and was desperately running scans.

Well, I have spent the better part of today trying to get this back to a usable state, and I'm having to eat up the fact that many of my apps are now broken. However, the most problematic thing for me is that "Keep on this device" DOES NOT WORK for a folder that has been synced from documents in a MS365 sharepoint folder. In order to get them to physically download I have to 'visit' every.single.file.and.folder. Let's hope that they stay there! This is a joke.
I know that Apple changed the apis on you but there was plenty of notice and using this change as an excuse to FORCE online files is so short sighted. I'm guessing you guys are in Redmond? Do you ever fly? Do you ever take the Cascades train? Let me tell you there is NEVER internet on the Cascades train, just a few miles from you. Requiring online is idiotic. Again I ask - did no-one point this out? Who's genius idea was this?
I guess at this point I am just talking to myself. Tonight will be taken up with the fun of moving ALL of my company's files to Dropbox.
