Processing and counting files (1,3 million files and it is slow)

I run OneDrive on a Macbook Pro with Sonoma - allmost smooth and without issues.

But yesterday OneDrive has somehow reset and is now processing changes to my 1,3 million files. It started by counting all the files and then count down again as it processes changes, but no files has been changed.

During the night it only managed to process about 100,000 files.

Any ideas how to speed up the process or how to aviod it in the future?
