I finally found a solution after I had the same issue:
I use another image viewer. Then I moved the files to a different folder and then back again. As a test I tried using the Windows Photo Viewer again - all went black again.
So switched back to the other program I repeated the steps. I didn't touch Windows Photo Viewer again and haven't had the problem since.

Hello, you may not see this but I hope somebody else will, as I've encountered the exact same issue now and need help. Images keep coming out as black instead of transparent, and I need to switch to another image viewer. I'd like to know which one you specifically used here about a year back, or if you perhaps found another solution to this problem. Thanks.
