OneDrive Sync Error code: 0x80004004

I have a user with sync issues getting Error code: 0x80004004. It will not  let me disconnect Onedrive to reconnect it. There is no work or school account tied to the device.  Attempted to connect account but did not resolve the issue. Already tried to repair but that  did not work either. I ended all OneDrive processes and refreshed the File Explorer and no changes. Not sure how  to fix the issue. Its a local user, no domain. Account has  a standard license.

The following clean reset resolves 0x80004004 OneDrive sync issues in the vast majority of cases and is the safest reliable fix to try first:

    Please follow these steps:

     1. Close OneDrive completely (Task Manager → end OneDrive.exe)

     2. Press Win + R and run:

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\OneDrive.exe /reset

     3. Wait 1–2 minutes, then start OneDrive again from the Start Menu.

     4. If the issue persists, rename this folder:

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings

    (for example to settings.old)

     5. Restart the PC and sign in to OneDrive again.

This process resets the local OneDrive sync configuration without affecting personal files and typically resolves cases where OneDrive gets stuck in a broken or incomplete sync state.

If it still does not work after this, the next step would be a clean reinstall of OneDrive.
