This is a known and fairly common OneDrive for Business issue on Windows, especially with certain builds of the Next Generation Sync Client. The crash when clicking Settings → Advanced settings usually points to a corrupt OneDrive configuration, bad cached settings, or a broken client update.
Below is a practical step-by-step fix list, starting with the fastest solutions.
Reset the OneDrive client (most common fix)
This clears corrupted local settings that often cause the Advanced settings crash.
Press Win + R
Paste this and press Enter:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\OneDrive.exe /reset
If OneDrive does not restart automatically after ~1 minute:
- Press Win + R
- Run:
- %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\OneDrive.exe
Test by clicking the gear icon → Settings → Advanced
Fully close OneDrive before trying again
Sometimes OneDrive is stuck in a half-crashed state.
- Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon → Close OneDrive
- Open Task Manager
- End all OneDrive-related processes
- Restart OneDrive
Delete corrupted OneDrive settings (safe)
If reset didn’t help, remove cached config files.
Close OneDrive completely
Go to:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\
Delete (or rename):
- settings
- logs
This does not delete synced files.
Restart OneDrive and test settings again.
Do steps 1 first
