New family storage limits from 6 TB to only 2 TB
Respectfully, I think the discussion keeps focusing on how customers should adapt to the change, rather than on the change itself.
If Microsoft's objective was flexibility, 6 TB of shared storage would have achieved that goal.
Moving from up to 6 TB total to 2 TB shared is not just a flexibility update. It also substantially reduces included storage capacity.
The question many customers are asking is simple: why are we receiving less storage for the same subscription price?
To be fair, the extra AI capabilities were previously only available to the account owner, and that has been extended to all family members. But I suspect subscribers value storage space much as AI features. And the AI features are still at the consumer level, not at the enterprise level. I could have traded 2 TB for the extra AI, but 4 TB is a big loss for me.

I suspect they are trying to drive AI adoption with this change. It serves their purposes but ignores why you and I—and likely the majority—pay for this service. AI has many options and people will go elsewhere before they pay (much) money. Plenty of free options. The value of the family option has decreased. As a Mac user I may dig into iCloud or Backblaze, though honestly I prefer OneDrive for my needs.
