Is it possible to restore deleted files?
- Sep 25, 2025
When you delete files from OneDrive, the changes sync across all devices, which is why they disappeared from your computer too. OneDrive isn’t a backup tool but a sync service, so it mirrors your cloud and local folders. Since you also emptied the OneDrive recycle bin, the built-in recovery is limited, but you may still have a chance. If you upgrade to a paid Microsoft 365 plan, you can use the Files Restore feature to roll your OneDrive back to a specific date within the last 30 days, which could bring your files back. It’s also worth checking your Windows Recycle Bin in case the files are still there locally. If not, a data recovery tool might help, but results can vary depending on how much new data has been saved since.
