Get a link to share without email

This is incredibly frustrating and clearly data harvesting by microsoft.

I want to share files to clients, in onedrive select the file, right click>onedrive>share

None of the options in here allow me to just get a link to send to somebody.

It makes onedrive sharing useless to me. I am not entering client emails into microsoft it serves no purpose other than data harvesting as far as I can tell.

Is there any work around for this, other than don't use onedrive which is becoming a real possibility!

Get a Link to Share via OneDrive for Business

    1. Navigate to the File in OneDrive for Business:
      • Go to the OneDrive for Business web interface or via the OneDrive desktop app.
    2. Select the File:
      • Right-click the file you want to share and choose Share.
    3. Adjust Link Settings:
      • In the sharing pop-up, click the option that displays the current link settings (e.g., "People in your organization with the link can view").
      • Change the setting to "Anyone with the link" (this allows external users to access it).
    4. Generate the Link:
      • Once you set it to "Anyone with the link", click Apply. Allowing "Anyone with the link" access means that anyone who gets the link can view the file.
      • You will now see an option to Copy link instead of sending an email.
      • Click Copy link to get a direct URL you can share with anyone.

If your organization’s default settings require email sharing, an admin can change the default sharing permissions to allow anonymous link sharing, inform your admin about you need.

That’s an old answer that’s no longer relevant. The only choices are people in your organisation, someone you have shared with before, or a specific person (whereby you have to enter an email)

as far as I can tell it’s not possible to simply get a link from the desktop or from a browser
