Files On-Demand is in OneDrive Build 26.163.0823.0004 - the usual controls are not present....

Can someone help?

  • If Files On-Demand is enabled but the usual controls are missing, I would first verify whether the issue is with OneDrive itself or simply where Microsoft has placed the controls in newer versions.

In recent releases, options such as"Always keep on this device" and"Free up space" are often accessed by right-clicking a file or folder inside the OneDrive folder in File Explorer rather than from the OneDrive settings window.

I would also check whether the OneDrive status icons are visible:

    • Blue cloud = stored online only.
    • Green check mark = available on the device.
    • Solid green circle = always kept on the device.

If those icons and controls are completely missing, there may be a OneDrive configuration issue or a system setting preventing Files On-Demand from functioning correctly. In some cases, the feature can also be disabled by an organizational policy on work or school devices.

To better understand what is happening, could you clarify:

    • Is this a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?
    • Are you looking for the controls in OneDrive Settings or by right-clicking files in File Explorer?
    • Do your OneDrive files show cloud/checkmark status icons or no status icons at all?

That information will help determine whether the feature has actually disappeared or whether Microsoft has simply moved the controls to a different location in your version of OneDrive.
