Change to OneDrive mounting Shared Libraries on MacOS

OneDrive usually mounts shared libraries on MacOS under a Shared Library directory and any items you choose to sync go to this location. Overnight it seems OneDrive keeps updating these mounts to separate directories. Is this an expected change? I am unable to find any release notes online about this but some users are still mounted the old way and some will mount the old way but after a few minutes onedrive will update the mounts to this new way. This changes the file paths to things and is breaking a lot of workflows.

the major difference is that the old way had 4 things mounted in shared libraries and now all 4 of them are separate mounts

  • Your comparison shows a change from one Shared Libraries location to separate Finder locations for individual libraries. I could not verify an official release note confirming that exact transition, so I would not assume it is an expected rollout solely because multiple users see it.

Microsoft does document OneDrive’s use of macOS File Provider and sync locations under Library > CloudStorage. Finder labels alone are therefore insufficient to establish which underlying paths changed.

Compare an affected and unaffected Mac using the same libraries: record macOS version, OneDrive build, Standalone versus Mac App Store installation, and the old and new paths. Check that each library’s files remain accessible online and that OneDrive reports synchronization complete.

Provide that comparison and your screenshot through your organization’s Microsoft 365 support channel. Avoid manually moving or deleting active sync roots to recreate the previous layout; first obtain confirmation of the intended behavior and supported remediation.

Thanks for the reply, I have been in touch in Microsoft Support. This is a shadow update that started rolling out in September and is expected to finish by end of November. more details can be discovered via MC1458483.

It's not letting me add an html link. search for that MC# and onedrive and the first response from merill should expla

the MacOS team is updating the sync engine via a gradual rollout. machines that are updated display a number and letter version. mine says 26M
