You can't send messages because you are not a member of the chat. - How do I rejoin?

Hey Kelemvor333,
I have this same message and found it related to the Teams preview feature allowing separate windows for chat and meetings.
I was able to solve this issue by double clicking on the calendar icon in the meeting header which opens a new window and allows for chat.A non-intuitive experience for sure.
Yeah, I've had the same experience, and couldn't find any way to solve it (chat button doesn't help). Open a support case and report this, seems like a bug to me. I can report it directly, but since I'll be off for 10 days or so, I probably wont be able to follow up on it. Or we can just volunteer Chris 🙂
Is there a way I can upvote this? I am currently experiencing it.
I joined a meeting on my phone, then as I was moving to my laptop, I closed my phone session.
There was an option to exit the chat but that didn't exit the meeting. I found a way to exit the meeting afterward.
When I joined on my laptop I can't send chats.

This happened to my colleague in a teams meeting yesterday. And they were "hosting" so even more disruptive, we tried:
- rejoining meeting, no effect
- quit teams and restart (not just close ...quit), no effect
- finally he had a second connection to the meeting via browser/web and was able to chat via the browser session. Not a fix, but a quick work-around.

Keinobl I had same issue doing some Microsoft Training courses with DDLs.
I tried with PC and Phone - didn't work. Teams in Browser on PC worked though.
Tried restarting PC, logging out of Teams, Outlook etc and back in - no deal.
Browser worked without issue.
Others were chatting. The apps finally worked again on the 3rd day.
Not sure what is happening, but it's very disruptive.
