What does the Upgrade button do, in the beta version?

I've got the Microsoft Teams app for Windows 10 installed on my desktop. I've had it for over a year. This is, I believe, the beta version. It's version 1.3.00.13565

When I get into the "Manage Org" dialog, there's an "Upgrade" button there. What is that for? I know that MS Teams is going to become a part of the Microsoft 365 suite. I have Microsoft 365 Family Edition (I think that's what it's called). This beta version seems to be completely unaware of my Microsoft 365 license, as whenever I get into the organization I created way back when I first setup Teams on my desktop, it always suggest I get a Microsoft 365 license. Which doesn't make sense, of course, since I already have one.

But bottom line, what is that Upgrade button for? If I click on it, what will it try to upgrade? The app? My account? What?

  • I would imagine this is the Upgrade option you get if your account was used to sign up for the Free version of Teams. So upgrade is used for the process of making it into full Teams, that you would get as part of your M365 Business, Academic and Enterprise licenses.
