Whilst I appreciate your frustration, I would definitely urge you to stick with Teams. Microsoft have been working really hard to roll this feature out as quickly as they possibly can in these unprecedented times, and I feel they should be applauded for what they have done to help businesses and consumers all over the world to use Teams and keep the wheels turning during the Covid-19 pandemic wherever possible.
It'll come, and it will be well worth the wait when it does, plus it will be secure and integrate with all the other great features of M365.
