Unable to Get Link for MS Teams directly, getting SharePoint instead
Hi Jim
I am using New Teams. When I go to the General channel > Files, and click on the ellipse to the right of the file I want to work with, the menu that opens has an Open option. When you click on that option, a sub-menu opens. One of the options is to 'Open in app' That option should open the desktop version. (see attached png)

No it doesn't.
I am trying to share a Files area folder link in a team post and all I get is a Sharepoint link.
Samething when I want a link to a document.
Although we only allow opening Office docs in desktop application because web/teams versions destroy document formatting.
Teams still suck.

2024-11-20 We have the same issue trying to get links to files and folders from Teams Files to Teams Post or Teams Chats.

Hi Jim,
Sorry, thought your last post was referring to opening a doc within Teams. You are right. The sharing issue with Guests has not been resolved.- Jim_MundaneJun 19, 2024Brass ContributorAnd I don't share with Guests. Our Teams are for colleagues/membersin my org only.

Ah, yes. In New Teams open Settings > Files and Links.
Under File open preference click the dropdown arrow and choose 'Teams', 'Desktop app', or 'Browser'This settings preference may change if MS pushes a big update to New Teams.
For sharing with everyone in your Org ----- Teams ain't gonna do it. You could create a SharePoint site open to everyone in your Org (Public - Teams SP sites are Private to owners and members of the Team). Post files that are meant for everyone in your Org in that Public SP site.
Work around? Yes.
- Jim_MundaneJun 19, 2024Brass ContributorThe same thing with Docs. But New Teams also refces to obey setting to always open Office Docs in desktop app.
I HATE Microsoft. My work takes twice the time these days. There is no natural workflow with document handling.
