Yes you can talk to skype users from Teams, but only in Teams Only mode. You can't just switch it and test it, it can take some days for the client cache to update and recognize the change. Also your endpoints cannot be islands either, you need one side Teams only, and the other side Skype Only and wait. Islands is 0 interop and will only cause headaches. If your Islands org settings now and everyone still uses skype I would recommend you changing it to Skype Only. Then move people Teams Only as they request.

Just to confirm, you mean I can talk to (chat and phone) SFB users INTERNALLY from Teams? Microsoft support told me I couldn't. What do you mean by "one side needs to be"...which side? Again, the issue is no desk phones supporting the expansion modules so our receptionists can use Teams on their desktop but need to use SFB on the desk phones. Thanks.
- Jul 26, 2019Yes you can interop from Teams to Skype users internally. That's why I said, your Teams users have to be Teams Only and Skype Skype Only. If anyone is on islands, then it will not cross from one to the other.
As far as phone system goes, when I had Teams Only user use a skype phone I still used skype login, this was a year ago thou, so not sure how / if it's changed in regards to how presence works or if it even works, because it used to not work previously with presence, it was like the phone was still in Skype but the calls would ring both Teams and my phone.- reditguyJul 26, 2019Iron ContributorGot it, so what I should do is put everyone on Teams only, including the receptionist, and have everyone log into their PCs with Teams and not SFB...but also have the receptionist log into the desk phone using SFB (no one else uses desk phones). Then hopefully if someone calls the main# the receptionist can answer using the Teams on her PC or SFB on her desk phone, and transfer as needed? Would she be able to join multiple people to a call?
- Jul 26, 2019I mean assuming no one is using Skype, or they all already know and use Teams. You don't want to just flip it on them like that. If everyone is already on islands and using Teams, then it'll be an easy transition.
I'm not sure how the receptionist would work thou. You might just turn your receptionist to Skype only and everyone else to Teams Only.
I'm not versed enough in Phone System and devices to give you a 100% answer, maybe someone else that knows better can chime in on the device functionality. The problem is you dont' want to switch it, then something go wrong, and you have to wait hours or a day or so for it to switch back.
