Teams status stuck on "busy" or "in a meeting"
My Teams status is constantly changing to "Busy" or "in a meeting", regardless of whether I am actually in a meeting. I have to manually set it back to "available" throughout the day. I have read...

You are correct, see article
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/presence-admins#:~:text=Presence%20is%20part%20of%20a%20user%27s%20profile%20in,real%20time%29%20if%20other%20users%20are%20available%20online.
App-configured presence states are based on user activity (Available, Away), Outlook calendar states (In a meeting), or Teams app states (In a call, Presenting). Note that when you are in focus mode based on your calendar, Focusing will be the state people see in Teams but will show as Do not disturb in other products
If this is something you would like to see would recommend opening a uservoice for it here
https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/
There is a similar uservoice here for presence change when on a call
https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/34037569-phone-presence-in-teams
So if this doesn't cover it simply open up a new one. There isn't a functionality there today which will do this
Hope this answers your quesion

From experience, you may have an inadvertently cancelled meeting (i.e., one that's scheduled but no one showed up for due to several members being out of office that day) causing your Teams to look "stuck."
Here's what worked for me (which I found by accident):
On Teams, go to Chat > Meeting Chats
Now go down to the "Chats" list, look for a boldfaced meeting title, and click that. Your MS Teams icon on the taskbar should now go back to "Active" (green).
Good luck.
