Teams messages search function does not show full conversation
phlyx Good point. I wonder if the people who test the software really use it in a real world environment or if they run some standard tests and then wait until they get feedback from disgruntled customers?
- Chasal777Aug 09, 2022Copper ContributorIn my company, they quite never do because the said software is not usable on your everyday life. This is not the case with Teams. So really, there is no technical issue. It’s just a matter of bucks, rushed dev, and emergency to steal the place took by competitors before they become too big to compete with.

soundcon Well, this is DAY 1,082 (almost THREE YEARS) since this thread was started with no feedback from Microsoft, no implementation/fix date, dozens and dozens of users complaining about the same issue over and over. Microsoft either doesn't care about their users (customers), don't have the technical ability to fix it, or don't ever tune into their own support forums. Then again my money would be on all three. Engineering here is pushing IT to dump Teams at work and go back to Slack, mainly for this issue. I think we have a better chance of doing that then we do of Microsoft fixing this.
- JCtheBIGuyJul 28, 2022Copper ContributorI started to give MS some "slack" when I realized the reason they probably don't do it is for performance reasons. Based on the general performance of the app, I made the assumption that doing keyword searches on a massive amount of data within Teams would take 10 minutes. But then I remembered that Slack has no problem doing it. The fact we are 1200 days into this and no fix tells me it is a core/architecture problem and can't be fixed. Hopefully I'm wrong.
- phlyxJul 28, 2022Iron ContributorIt's kind of like Teams is a library full of books of information. When you go to the index cards and search for a topic, the librarian brings you back the the page from the book it was in. If you want the whole book you have to run around the Teams library searching for the one with the missing page. Meanwhile in the Slack library across the street, the librarian brings you back the entire shelf of books.

Well, Teams is actually USELESS compared to Slack for instance. Microsoft used its power and position to impose it on its customers. The big company I work for suddenly switched to this without even asking the people.
The majority of us are disappointed. Teams lags. Teams lacks several basic features compared to Slack. But it's mandatory to use it because of some $$$ arrangements, not any actual benchmark.
Because of that **bleep** situation, I can not even perform a simple search in messages and retrieve the conversation context... And Slack (which is way better) will die.
Shame. That's just another predation issue in this industry showing that it is not and will never be sustainable.
- phlyxJul 14, 2022Iron ContributorYup!!! Found a comparison of Slack to Teams and they do a good job but do not cover the search problem with Teams. But if you read the comments it's pretty obvious that the majority of users prefer Slack. Pretty telling comment that points out the truth that people in large corps are being forced into Teams and not doing it by choice, but techy startups overwhelming prefer Slack.
"As of the end of 2019, Microsoft has clearly taken over the lead within enterprises and government organizations, used by 65% of surveyed respondents. But Slack is still the clear leader within the startup sector and among developers and other young, tech-savvy workers. If you’re Microsoft Teams, this is a pretty scary graph"
