Teams messages not appearing but in activity log shows read

Previously I used to receive all messages that I set my notifications up to receive. Now Teams messages are not appearing on mobile app or on desktop. But when activity log is later checked it will show that there are multiple messages that have been sent but they have been read however I actually have never read them. Chat messages do appear. I have checked all the notification settings for the phone and desktop for the teams notifications and they should be appearing. Any suggestions?
