Teams integration with exchange on prem
- Jul 28, 2020Yes, you need to make the hybrid deployment in order to be able to have the calendar feature in Teams working as you need
The accepted answer makes an important point about the integration requirements, but there is a distinction between needing Hybrid components and actually running the Hybrid Configuration Wizard (HCW).
Teams Calendar integration with on-premises Exchange requires synchronized identities, OAuth authentication, and accessible Autodiscover and EWS endpoints. However, HCW is not strictly required to configure these components.
I recently configured this manually with Exchange Server SE, keeping all user mailboxes on-premises. I explained the individual components and configuration steps in my article on Exchange Server and Teams Calendar Integration Without HCW.
The key components were the EvoSTS AuthServer and Exchange SPNs registered in Microsoft Entra ID, along with the necessary Entra Connect Sync and HTTPS endpoint configuration.
One additional distinction: Teams Meeting Delegation requires further configuration, including the Teams Calendar Scheduler PartnerApplication and restricted RBAC permissions.
So, the requirement is not necessarily to run HCW, but to ensure that the underlying identity, authentication, and connectivity components are configured correctly.
