Teams free version client crashes at login

I setup the free version of Microsoft Teams using a personal Microsoft account.  I can login to Teams web portal just fine using this personal account and see the Team I created.  I download the client and when I sign in, it immediately crashes.  I have tried to download the client from the normal Teams site and after singing into the Teams web portal but neither work. I have tried the client across 2 different Windows 10 devices with the same results.  Does the client work with the free version of Teams?  I can't find anything that says it doesn't.
