Teams for Mac causes VTEncoderXPCService to use large amounts of memory during Video Call
This past few days I have noticed on my MacBook M1Pro 2021 that the VTEncoderXPCService process uses very large amounts of memory and has been causing Application Memory errors.
Traced the usage back to the new Teams process.
- Video team meeting the usage rises at about 1GB per minute.
- After about 30 minutes crashes,. Application Memory Low warnings.
- Shutdown teams the VTEncoderXPCService process frees uo most of its memory.
- Can watch on Activity monitor when new Teams in video call the usage spiking gradually higher and higher.

- KevinDenteCopper ContributorI have the same problem
- clal1809Copper ContributorToday I deinstalled the latest version of Teams and installed Teams Classic Version 1.6.00.34263
Here I did not face this issue anymore.
Instead of one process of VTEncoderXPCService with 20 GByte I had ca, 10 of them, largest with 80 MByte, so my memory was always on the bright side of life.
One thing, what i did not try until now, is to remove the Microsoft Webcam and just use the internal one. Maybe this is the root cause of all.
So for the moment I have a workaround, but still not the root cause and no solution.- KevinDenteCopper Contributor
I tried reverting to Teams Classic. It seems to have a different problem - during a call, eventually my screens (all my screens) go black. I still hear audio for about 60 seconds, then WindowServer crashes, my call drops, and it kicks me back out to the login screen. So that doesn't really solve my problem either.
