Teams Chat History - exports
Hello! I have a two part question that both relate to Teams Chat messages/history:
1. Is it possible to export your own Chat Messages?
2. Is it possible, as a Admin to export other peoples chats? i.e. if a user leaves the organisation but wants to retain a copy of their chats, but has already been deactivated and so cannot do it themselves.
Hi RMDUser1,
individual users cannot export their Microsoft Teams chat messages directly.
Instead, the export process is managed by administrators using the eDiscovery feature in Microsoft 365:eDiscovery Access:
Only administrators have the capability to export Microsoft Teams chat messages. Access the eDiscovery feature from the compliance (Microsoft Purview) center (https://compliance.microsoft.com/)Create a Case:
You, as an admin can initiate the process by creating an eDiscovery case, providing it with a relevant name.New Search:
Within the case, administrators can create a new search to specifically target Teams chat messages.Add Condition:
Admins can add conditions, such as selecting O365 user mailboxes, to narrow down the search criteria.Export Conversations:
The export process can include entire chat conversations, consolidated into a single PDF file, or individual chat messages within a conversation.
