Hi, could you please tell me what is the definition of an active user within a team? In Manage team, there is a tab called Analytics showing number of active/inactive users. But I was not able to...

Hi Anna_Prochazkova
Here we go - see the following article
https://tomtalks.blog/2019/12/how-does-microsoft-define-microsoft-teams-active-users/
“We define DAU as the maximum daily users performing an intentional action in the last 28-day period across the desktop client, mobile client and web client,” Microsoft 365 corporate VP Jared Spataro recently said.
So what’s an “intentional action”?
“Examples of an intentional action includes starting a chat, placing a call, sharing a file, editing a document within teams, participating in a meeting, etc.”
Microsoft removes “passive actions” like auto-start/login, minimizing a screen, or closing the app from its calculations, and de-dupes all actions across a single user ID. So these users really are taking some kind of active action.
Hope that answers your question!
Best, Chris

We're an EDU tenant. I follow Tom's blog and found different results. I raised a ticket with Premier support and all it resulted in was them asking me to raise a uservoice. I.e kick it into the long grass. https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/39250318-teams-usage-report-shouldn-t-include-active-user
- Feb 03, 2020I can't say why that disparity is there or the reason for why it appears out of kilter. As Tom's article outlines, that is the party line from Microsoft and what they recognise as being an active user and for what they consider to be DAU.
It seems strange that the response should have been to open a uservoice, unless they were implying to raise it as a bug. I have raised it direct to the MS Teams team, including this thread and the uservoice. I have also requested they publish an official article on what exactly constitutes DAU. We may not get these, but I have put this in front of them through raising it as a bug directly.
Best, Chris
