I just tried it myself, too, and changing the name of  Private channel does not change the name of the underlying folder in SharePoint.  This problem is supposed to be fixed according to the roadmap, but it clearly isn't.  Here is a link to the RoadMap item 72211:

      The feature rollout is delayed due to some other bugs to get resolved first affecting this feature. No ETA currently for this.
