Sharepoint Migration Tool migrates Data only to standard channel
aesposito1982 Private Channels create their own, separate SharePoint site, I haven't tried the migration tool, but you will need to select a different destination site.
Hi and thx for the reply. in the meanwhile i discovered that u can still migrate directy to a private channel using as destination the sharepoint site
https://companyname.sharepoint.com/sites/TeamsName-Channel-Name/Documents
BUT
it will copy my Data in the Documents folder and i still need to move the Data in the appropriate directory to make it visible in Teams. why? how can i migrate directly to the directory?

Hi! I'm having the same issue with private channel and try to do what you suggested. I have a question, how can you get the destination site url. When I choose open in SharePoint from Teams channel it always gives me an URL with "/teams/" inside. Like:
https://companyname.sharepoint.com/Teams/TeamsName-Channel-Name/Documents- SultanHJan 06, 2026Copper Contributor

Microsoft
It may help to use a CSV/JSON input to direct it to the library and subfolder where you want the data to move. With CSV you can pair a source folder with a destination library and subfolder, so each thing goes to the right subfolder. Keeping in mind that the site url and subfolder will be unique for the private channel due to the separate site collection.
