I thought this must be it but wanted to make sure. You cannot set a picture on a Channel I'm afraid, just the Team itself. The ability to set a picture on a channel has been requested at https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/16933699-channel-background-picture so you could add your vote to this if you wanted to.

Hi, when you mention sub-groups, are you referring to Channels please?

PeterRising Yes I think it's called channel. I think the Big channel contains the small channel. Sorry about the term I used. The small channel is equals the sub-group. Thanks!
