Well, silly me thought knowing what your team is doing as well reaching out to them at their convenience versus mine was an aspect of leadership and management, but since MS feels it is not, then no point in following this conversation anymore.

Exactly! It's not supposed to be Facebook, it's a corporate tool - and no-one I speak to doesn't want this feature, management OR support staff - they all use it.
- and if there is 1 company in the world that wants to turn off this feature, it could be a setting. seems like a very bad reason to not have it implemented.
